My journey to healthy eating did not start when I was diagnosed with 2 auto-immune diseases when I was in my 20's. Back then there was not an emphasis on food for health. It started when our daughter was 18 months old and we feared she was developing fatty breast tissue, our pediatrician told us to stop feeding her grocery store meat due to the hormones and antibiotics fed/injected into them. Hence, we found a place that sold antibiotic/hormone free meat, no GMO fears back then. As for my path, I was a semi good patient, following the Doctors recommendations for medicine, however, as almost all people who have chronic illnesses, when you feel good you think you don't need medicine. Falling off the wagon of prescription drugs is what started this process of education and searches for alternative medicine. The 90's was the dawn of internet usage for knowledge, I found a study published in Spain about Omega 3 fats for treating inflammation. The studies result was if you ingested high dosages of this essential fat, it would help reduce the inflammation response and ease (put into remission sometimes) the symptoms I was suffering. Like the dutiful little patient, I took the information to my specialist at the time, and he really was not interested in what I had found, just prescribed more pills and sent me on my way. That was the last time I saw him; it was 2003 and I decided I was going to follow the study guidelines from the alternative medicine world and see what happens. Thus, the journey of being healthy by eating good quality food and supplementing my diet with healthy fats and foods that are known to reduce inflammation in the body started. It has brought me to my place here at this little country market that offers high quality food and friendship for those who are seeking, like I was, a place to start to feel better.

It has been 6 years since we started this journey together and we want you all to know that you, our customers, have become more than that! You have become friends and family! Losing my mom in the beginning of the lockdowns and being denied the ability to sit and enjoy her because she was in a care facility, drove home that anything can happen. COVID taught us that time spent with family is the most precious and you CANNOT get it back. So, as we explore passing on our family-oriented business, know that it is with a heavy heart, for we will miss all of you, but also with much excitement for the future time we will spend with our children and grandchildren!
