My journey to healthy eating did not start when I was diagnosed with 2 auto-immune diseases when I was in my 20's. Back then there was not an emphasis on food for health. It started when our daughter was 18 months old and we feared she was developing fatty breast tissue, our pediatrician told us to stop feeding her grocery store meat due to the hormones and antibiotics fed/injected into them. Hence we found a place that sold antibiotic/hormone free meat, no GMO fears back then. As for my path, I was a semi good patient, following the Doctors recommendations for medicine, however, as almost all people who have chronic illnesses, when you feel good you think you don't need medicine. Falling off the wagon of prescription drugs is what started this process of education and searches for alternative medicine. The 90's was the dawn of internet usage for knowledge, I found a study published in Spain about Omega 3 fats for treating inflammation. The studies result was if you ingested high dosages of this essential fat it would help reduce the inflammation response and ease (put into remission sometimes) the symptoms I was suffering. Like the dutiful little patient I took the information to my specialist at the time and he really was not interested in what I had found, just prescribed more pills and sent me on my way. That was the last time I saw him, it was 2003 and I decided I was going to follow the study guidelines and see what happened. Thus the journey of being healthy by eating good quality food and supplementing my diet with healthy fats and foods that are known to reduce inflammation in the body started. It has brought me to my place here at this little country market that offers high quality food and friendship for those who are seeking, like I was, a place to start to feel better.
